About

This project was thought up and created by ESP the English For Special Purposes Foundation in Ulaanbaatar. ESP is a non-profit educational institution which is committed to helping the Mongolian community in the field of language training. ESPF provides courses in English for Special Purposes and English for General Purposes. Voice Box is one of a many number of projects that ESP is involved in.

Voice Box is a TV show and website that aims to teach English to the youth of Mongolia and talk about issues relevant to them in a fun and interactive way. Many English learning resources make it hard for students because they include topics that don’t relate to individuals in Mongolia. How many students have ever been to a prom? None.

This program changes all that. Every week we use English to explore the rich Mongolian culture through the eyes of you guys. Mongolian people! We go to schools, hang out in gers, sing songs, try traditional foods and customs, talk to Mongolian individuals that have achieved great things, and share it all with you right from the comfort of your living rooms. So come and join us each week at 6:15 pm Saturdays, for a truly eye opening television experience!

The Third Season

Voice Box would not have been possible without the efforts of Catherine Gearing, who spent a year setting up the project as an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development (AYAD). Then along came two new AYADs to work on the project. David Lipson, was in charge of the show and was one of the hosts, and Sebastian Fowler, was in charge of the website. They produced the first season of Voice Box in cahoots with Mongolian National Broadcaster (MNB).

The next AYAD on the scene was none other than Gabrielle Brady. She saw the show grow and grow. Gaby was here all by herself, which made things tricky at times, however she produced a fabulous second season. Much of Mongolia was covered by Gabrielle and brought to you via Voice Box.

Finally, we arrived! Miranda Stokes and Mitchell O’Hearn are now at the helm of Voice Box. They have changed the look and feel of Voice Box a bit, but it is still the show you have come to know and love. The third season is now well under way, and with many more countryside trips planned, we hope to meet you all soon!
