EPISODE 22 ACTIVITIES – KUNG FU


Exercise 1

Using the words in the box, complete the sentences below.
Eg. “I _walk_ to school because I live so close to it.”

1. Have you ever seen a Bruce Lee movie? His martial arts skills were __________.
2. When I visit my grandparents, I am always very _________ to them.
3. Everyone should learn some __________ for their own safety.
4. Sometimes I wish I was __________, so I could play tricks on people.
5. I started a __________ that started the whole world laughing.
6. When people have their graduations, they wear very nice __________.
7. A news report __________ that I am cool.
8. I am going __________ on the weekend.
9. Every year we __________ a picnic with our friends.
10. The fight was fairly judged by the __________.

Exercise 2 – Speaking
Get into pairs and take it in turns to ask and answer the following questions.

Have you seen any Jackie Chan movies?
If so, what is your favourite? If not, have you seen other martial arts movies?
What is good about learning kung fu or other martial arts?
Do you want to learn martial arts?
If so, which one and why? If not, what would you rather learn/play instead?

Exercise 3 – True/False

Answer the following true or false questions after watching the show.

1. Dave watched the wrestling at during Tsagaan Sar T/F
2. In Mongolian wrestling, the wrestlers are allowed to strangle each other T/F
3. According to legend, Mongolian wrestler’s costumes are open at the front because somebody once hid a knife in their shirt. T/F
4. Dave enjoys American style wrestling because it’s funny. T/F
5. Bolor likes to watch people fight. T/F

Exercise 4 – Storytelling
Write a sentence for each of the pictures below, making it into a story. You can re-arrange the pictures if you like.

kung_fu_4.jpg kung_fu_5.jpg kung_fu_6.jpg

Think about why the characters are there, who they are and how they know each other.
What is the significance of the goat? How does it fit into the story?
What happens next? Compete the story in any way you like.

Eg. They all hug and become friends. Or, they all have a big fight. Or they team up and fight bad people.

Be sure to include the goat in your story.

Exercise 5 – Comparatives and Superlatives
Comparatives and superlatives are different forms of verbs that strengthen the verb. A comparative is stronger than the original verb, which a superlative is the strongest form of the verb.

Eg.
Adjective = strong Comparative = stronger Superlative = strongest
Adjective = good Comparative = better Superlative = best
Adjective = bad Comparative = worse Superlative = worst

Comparatives are usually used with the word “than” after them, because they are comparing two things.

Eg. That guy is louder than me.

Superlatives usually use “the” before the superlative.
Eg. She is the loudest in the room.
Sometimes verbs don’t have comparative or superlative forms, in which case you use “more _verb_ (than)” and “(the) most _verb ”.

Eg. I am more careful than my brother.
This question is the most difficult on the test.

Complete the following sentences with the correct comparative or superlative.

1. Bola is __________ (short) than Dave.
2. Dave is __________ (tall) on the show.
3. Kung fu is __________ (difficult) than watching TV.
4. Javkhaa __________ (strong).
5. Bola’s hair is __________ (long) than the Javkhaa’s.
